Not A Sponsored Post || Review of Home Chef

[edit: written in 2017]

This is not a sponsored post, just thought I'd be upfront about that right away. That would be the dream, guys. Okay, let's start off with the negatives first, because there are so much more positive points and I'd rather focus on that:

--Three weeks in, twice one missing ingredient (luckily both times I had the ingredient on hand (thousand island dressing and honey). But this is a bit concerning, I don't remember missing any ingredients when I had Blue Apron for months.
--In one box, the meat leaked juices all over the other meat. They keep all the meat in one bag separate from the other items so that was a saving grace there. Still, a mess to clean.
--I don't need them to grate the ginger for me, I could do that
--Not local
--The produce isn't as good as Blue Apron or just what I'm accustomed to in general (spoiled here in the bay)

Now to the positive!

--Meals have been easy to prepare
--Price seems reasonable for this type of service
--Easy to follow instructions
--Fairly accurate prepping/cooking times (Blue Apron seemed to extremely underestimate cooking times)
--Lot's of choices/variety to pick from each week
--Didn't seem to be any you couldn't combine together like Blue Apron
--Could order more than three meals vs other meal services I've tried (haven't done this yet)
--Meals seem to be really different from each other (Blue Apron had the habit of trying to make endive and shallots into a salad for too many meals)
--Can add on smoothies!
--Easy to navigate website: easy to edit your order, easy to skip a week

Overall I'm pleased with this service. I was going to order Blue Apron again, since I was already familiar with them, but remembered that one of the reasons I stopped was because Neil was complaining about the sameness of the meals. The meal delivery service has really boomed and there are a good amount of choices, so it was hard to choose. I wanted to go with Purple Carrot (all vegan meals) but Neil's face made it clear that was not okay with him. He would eat it if I did go with them, but I want him to be happy with what I make too (I made some meatballs the other night and his happy noises were so cute: think Pillsbury Doughboy, ha).
